A supplier to the retail hardware stores had business requirements that were not being met by their existing transport and warehouse providers. They had difficulties in estimating the volume of product that would be shipped to interstate branches.
This meant that they could not anticipate the number and size of Linehaul vehicles that would be required on a particular day. The result was that orders expected to be delivered to customers overnight were not fulfilled as the linehaul requirement was underestimated. This was a common occurrence and resulted in a loss of sales and returns.
Logicales approach was to analyze the order patterns and using statistical models were able to provide linehaul scheduling that met the requirements. It also provided back up facilities to account for the occasions that were outside of normal distribution.
The result was a minimization for returns and deliveries that were affected according to schedule.
